What the ISO contains, what is downloaded afterwards and the licenses involved.

Alpha

This documentation covers vGPU OS 0.1.2, in alpha. Screens and commands may change between versions; to see the installed version, use vgpu-os version.

vGPU OS is distributed only to members of the Universo Hackintosh Hackintosh - vGPU OS tier, through the #vgpu-os channel on Discord. The ISO is not published on this site or anywhere else.

Use only during the membership

  • vGPU OS may be installed and used only by members with an active, paid-up Hackintosh - vGPU OS membership.
  • Only with copies obtained through the official members' channel, the download button in #vgpu-os.
  • Use is personal and non-transferable.

Anyone who is not an active member, or who obtained the ISO outside the official channel, even from a member, may not install or use vGPU OS.

When the membership ends — whether canceled or not renewed — the license to use it ends and vGPU OS must be removed from the computer, along with the OSX-REIMS that comes with it. To do so, just install another system over the vGPU OS disk. The VMs live on that same disk: first copy elsewhere any files you created and want to keep, since they remain yours.

What the ISO contains

  • Debian 13 packages, unmodified from the official repository, each under its own free license.
  • vGPU OS's own programs and configuration: installer, first setup, hardware detection, session, and diagnostics.
  • The OSX-REIMS package, the same software delivered to members, installed during the first setup.

The principle is that the ISO redistributes nothing beyond what OSX-REIMS already distributes, plus Debian itself.

What is not in the ISO

Downloaded after installation, each from its official source and under its own license:

Component Source
Video drivers and firmware, Mesa, build tools Debian repository (NVIDIA, from non-free, only with your authorization)
Reims vGPU and its QEMU The authors' repository on GitHub, compiled on your computer
Rust rustup.rs
VM EFI components Their authors' sources, verified by SHA-256 checksum
macOS Recovery Apple servers

CUDA is never installed.

OSX-REIMS license

The first time the OSX-REIMS console opens, it shows the license agreement, which must be accepted on each computer; the ISO does not include any pre-accepted agreement. The summary and the full text are on the OSX-REIMS license page (opens in a new tab).

Reims vGPU

Reims vGPU is third-party open-source software, under its authors' license. vGPU OS and OSX-REIMS are not affiliated with, sponsored by, or endorsed by them. Learn more at reims-vgpu.com (opens in a new tab).

Apple and macOS

vGPU OS is not affiliated with, sponsored by, or endorsed by Apple Inc. Apple and macOS are trademarks of Apple Inc. The macOS license permits its use only on Apple hardware. macOS is downloaded by your computer directly from Apple's servers; no system image is distributed.

No warranty and no support

vGPU OS is experimental, alpha-stage software, provided without warranty of any kind.

The Hackintosh - vGPU OS membership gives access to the ISO and the Discord channels, but it does not include technical support. The #vgpu-os-chat channel is a space for members to help each other, with no guarantee of a reply, a timeframe or a fix. See Asking for help.
